Locker Heatshielding division celebrates 50 Years milestone

Locker Heatshielding, based on Farrell Street, was established in 1976 to design and manufacture Heatshields that protect workers from extreme heat, wind and weather in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.

The shields are made in Warrington and installed on offshore platforms, refineries and industrial sites around the world, protecting walkways, staircases and lifeboat stations.

Dominic Stott, Director and General Manager at Locker Heatshielding, said: “Locker Heatshielding has provided highly skilled jobs in the town for half a century, and put Warrington on the map when it comes to innovation, making flexible and versatile shields using wire mesh.

“A Heatshield is a woven wire mesh barrier that blocks radiant heat, making otherwise inaccessible onshore and offshore areas safe to work in, while still giving people a vital escape route if there’s an emergency.

“Heatshields have no moving parts and need very little maintenance, so people working in dangerous environments can rely on them to keep doing their job safely.”

Each Heatshield is designed by the Warrington team using specialist software before moving into fabrication. Every stage, apart from acid cleaning, is carried out on site in Warrington.

Customers include Samsung, Shell and Petrobras and, over the last five decades, engineers have worked on projects all over the world, from the North Sea to South America, West Africa, South East Asia and Australasia.
